A Quick Glimpse at the recently approved Meccanica by Cressey

We previously reported on the upcoming 24 storey Opsal Building by Bastion Development, which is to be located at the corner of Quebec and East 1st Avenue in False Creek South.

Well, things seem to move more quickly these days in Vancouver, and accordingly City Council just gave its approval to a rezoning application for a new residential project  less than a block away at 104-150 East 1st Avenue, between Quebec and Main Street.

See description of the development below…

Millennium Water rebrands itself as “The Village on False Creek”

Millennium Water, we hardly knew ye.

Well that’s not really true, there’s been media saturation on the City-funded development in Southeast False Creek. But it makes for an easy line anytime somebody changes a name.

And that’s just what’s being done at the Olympic Village development – which is (unsurprisingly) looking for a fresh brand position as it puts its remaining units back on the market this Spring.

Details and a look at the brand changes, after the jump…

City approves downtown Higher Buildings Policy

After pushing back the decision at a meeting in January, city council this week approved the downtown Higher Buildings Policy.

That means that three specific areas downtown will likely have taller buildings coming soon (although individual property rezonings still need to be done for sites within the areas).

The downtown areas in question are: a portion of the Central Business District, an area around the Burrard Bridge and an area around the Granville Bridge.

We’ve previously covered the potential towers that could rise (including Burrard Gateway, the only one with a rezoning application on the books)

Check out some maps and context pictures of the changes to downtown below:

We’ve got a refresher of those renderings, along with pictures of the four alternate plans that the city asked the developer to propose along with its favoured plan. Check it out below…
